Music ConstructED is an all-inclusive resource for general music educators. Our resources are created and designed by exceptional educators and include lesson inspirations, in-depth curricular units, practical and relevant professional development, and a forum for networking and collaboration for music educators across the globe.
Music ConstructED began as a dream and a mission. Sarah Fairfield and Kate Hagen, our Educational Architects, currently teach in the Iowa City Community School District. Both have with over 20 years of teaching experience working with K-6 students, and have spent many hours providing professional development to teachers. They envisioned creating an online platform providing practical and relevant classroom resources and professional development opportunities designed specifically for general music educators.
At the same time Robin Walenta, the CEO of West Music, had a similar vision of providing exceptional resources to general music teachers that would include curriculum and continuing education, in addition to the products already being sold by West Music.
During a chance dinner conversation in February 2020, Robin and Sarah discovered that they had a common mission and thus, the idea of Music ConstructED was born. Robin, our Chief Construction Officer, was able to draw on some of the talent currently employed at West Music to help make this new division a reality.
Jessica Palmer, the Foreperson/Project Manager, is an Educational Consultant for books and music, recorders, and puppets at West Music. She has a background in general music, and community music in Iowa City, IA. Stephanie Zimmerman, our Author Relations Coordinator, is the executive assistant and West Music. Her love of organizing all things and experience in the non-profit world makes her an excellent communicator and point of contact for our authors.
The Music ConstructED crew is committed to providing a solid foundation for general music educators to access the tools and resources they need to create a comprehensive music education program.
